Politics As Usual

It has been many months since Obama was sworn in. Let's check his score card, shall we?

So far, Obama's biggest battles: Ending the War, and Reforming Health Care have hit the skids... no changes. There has been no bi-partisan support for health care, which is really not surprising seeing the Republican's are still pissed that Obama won the election in the first place, really can't see any reason for them to actually get on board with the president, I mean that could alienate young, white republicans for heaven's sake! How distasteful!!

What I find really distasteful is how Glen Beck goes on his morning radio broadcast and claims all that Keith Olbermann reports is down right lies, and then I tune in to Keith Olbermann to see the same claims that all Glen Beck reports is lies. Although, I tend to believe Olbermann seeing Beck's program is an Opinion piece and not actual news reporting.

And to go one further about reporting, what is it with reporters reporting that Obama's speech to young students is the first time a president has nationally addressed students (see one report here)? George H.W. Bush did so in 1991, see the public paper: Presidential Library Public Paper . Is it any surprise that when Bush addressed the children in 1991 that certain Democrats objected to his speech? No, that is politics, I expect that. What I don't expect is reporters to fail so miserably in reporting the facts. Good Lord! I found the Bush announcement on the internet, I would think the media could do as much.

2008 Election Day

This was an interesting campaign. For the most part, the Democrats stuck it to the Republicans in republican fashion: SPENDING VAST AMOUNTS OF CAMPAIGN FUNDS! Anyway, I'll be voting for Obama/Biden today. I really hope he wins. The current republican asshat fear-tactics will not dissuade me.

One particular asshat, gcsecsi from YouTube, truly believes that Obama is a Communist...

containerraid (1 week ago)
I hope McCain wins. He'll lower taxes, making it even more impossible for America to pay off the enormous foreign loans they made to finance that ridiculous war. Already most american industry is moving overseas, nothing in america is made in america, it's all got 'Made in China' typed all over it. Eventually America will crash and become just another pathetic Third World Country filled with 1% greedy rich people, and an amazingly high number of poor beggars being fucked over by corruption

gcsecsi (6 days ago)
If he does nothing he is helping me!

gcsecsi (6 days ago)
How about a new house, a new car, free gas and food? I am sure you could use all those things cound'nt you? No one paid for my college education, I got healthcare by getting a job!

defactomode (3 days ago)
gcsecsi, there are large companies which do not offer health insurance to their employees or if they do, it is not affordable (WALMART instructs their employees to apply for state assisted health care programs... how socialist of them!). More and more companies are no longer offering affordable health insurance for their employees to purchase. Ah, but, I bet YOU knew that, didn't you? Funny thing about private health care, even if you THINK you're covered, they can deny you coverage. How lovely.

gcsecsi (3 days ago)
I as many others provide my employees with healthcare and I am a small business with seven employees! You know the kind Obama wants to punish and steal from! Get off your ass and get a real job, the newspapers are full of them! Of course you will be required to work for it, woudn't that be inconvenience!

defactomode (3 days ago)
You are as a blind man, you are locked within your own perspective, and the key is out of reach.

gcsecsi (3 days ago)
Blind Man My Ass!! I have worked hard all my life, nobody ever gave me nothing! I worked 15 years busting my ass, putting up with worthless people like you, for what to have Obama come take it like Castro and give it to you, when I could use that money to hire people who are worthy and maybe reward existing employees and maybe myself?? Obama is no less than a communist marxist you nitwit!

defactomode (2 days ago)
Blind AND Deaf.

All this over 3%.

Amazing.

gcsecsi (2 days ago) {{Republicans are all for welfare when it is being handed to THEM}}
Since it's no big deal, I'll let you pay it, it comes to about $8,600.00! If you will do that, then I could take care of myself and my employees who have all worked extra hard, after all you do agree we should all have a nice Christmas Bonus don't you? On behalf of my employees and myself thank you for taking care of it for us, it was hard enough to come up with the ninety thousand that has to be finished being paid by the end of the year!

defactomode (2 days ago)
You have my pity

gcsecsi (2 days ago)
I give you none, your just plain pathetic! {{Another very Christian moment for gcsecsi}}

defactomode (1 day ago)
I don't need sympathy, I need a tax-cut, and under Obama's plan, I'll get one. Praise the lord!

gcsecsi (1 day ago)
You need a tax cut? Or a tax credit? Do you even pay taxes?

gcsecsi (1 day ago)
Do you even have a job? How much did you pay in taxes last year? How much will your tax cut be worth fifty bucks? Is it worth losing your job and not being able to find a job? I guess you would move to the tax credit at that point and that would be fine with you since it is welfare that you more than likely are looking for!

defactomode (1 day ago)
Of course I have a job. I'll earn about 52K this year, and pay taxes on approximately $25K after expenses, and if the cut is worth $50, even fifty bucks helps. Job-loss is affecting everyone, and has been for many, many months. Our economy is trashed regardless of whom is next elected. I refuse to be one of those who joins in "the turning away" that Pink Floyd sings of. I'll pitch in - in the tradition of "Ask not what your country can do for you..."

gcsecsi (1 day ago)
Well i am happy that you have a job, I hope you can keep it under an Obama administration! {{FEAR-TACTIC}}

Do you support socialism? communism? or just plain misinformed? "Ask not what your country can do for you..." what have them steal from your employer and give it to you? Pinish people who worked hard and are finnaly reaching the American dream? If Obama gets in we are going down, you would have to be an idiot not to see it! Cut the chains on the Liberal oppressed and set them free!

defactomode (1 day ago)
What I see is you and I are going in circles. What I see is social injustice and economic unfairness. During this period of "war" keep in mind, everybody thinks they're right in a war, everybody still dies in the end. I'm outta here.

gcsecsi (1 day ago) (This post is truly amazing, the only hate I'm feeling is coming from gcsecsi, and HE is supposed to be the Christian here)
So your throwing in the towel with me, what so you can move on speading your devisive, socialist views to others! If going to throw it in then throw it in! Quit spreading your ignorant hate filled ideology and trying to justify why we need to live in a socialist socieity! {{FEAR-TACTICS in three...two...one...}} He will come after our first ammendment rights and then our second, he has already committed to these things. I go back to my orignal questions to you with one new one, are you an athiest?

defactomode (1 day ago)
HATE? nah, I'm the one who loves all people, for richer or poorer. I must say, your "Christian" viewpoint comes in loud and clear. Which of the poor would Jesus ignore? As much as I would love to continue this game of ping-pong I must head out. Good luck in your war.

gcsecsi (1 day ago)
Jesus would not ignore, though he would not reward bad behavior as well, he wants to see each of us do well, we our made dependent on ourselves! The slavery of the past few centuries was often based exclusively on skin color, many slave owners truly believed black people to be inferior human beings to white people. The Bible most definitely condemns race-based slavery. Consider the slavery the Hebrews experienced when they were in Egypt (Exodus 13:14). Help is found through God not Government!

defactomode (1 day ago)
Actually, help is found through people. Lately, with the newest uprising of televangelical ministers, Christian-Americans sense of societal correctness has faded into the distance in favor of a new breed of "more than enough for me, but less than enough for you -- your faith is lacking" preachers. The Christian-right seems to have lost their sense of caring for those less fortunate: the poor, the sick, and the needy...

gcsecsi (1 day ago)
Millions give 10% and more, they need to leave this work to the churches who do a much better job than government, and stay out of it! The truth is that people have to hit bottom before they can be helped, many our lost souls and may never find there way! The churches helps these folks try to find their salvation and get back on track everyday! Barrack will reward bad behaior, it just does not work, their has to be tough love, you would not give a heroin addict heroin to help him find his way??

defactomode (1 day ago)
Welfare wouldn't be needed in America if the Church were caring for the less fortunate as it should. If all church-goers indeed gave 10% of their gross earnings to the Church each week, welfare could be taken up by clergy, and the new-Christian wouldn't have to concern themselves with Socialism by the government.

fargorn2 (1 day ago)
Wow gcsecsi; are you that ignorant and self righteous that you truly believe in what you say? Firstly i am Canadian and therefore am a third party. Communism, as everyone is led to believe, takes away your power as a citizen. And that could be true, depending on who is in charge. Right now it wouldn't matter though because the american citizen has such a lack of power. You are socially and economically oppressed by your government. You are so controlled yet so afraid of being controlled.

gcsecsi (1 day ago)
The American have plenty of power it is called their vote and they better wake up and learn how to use it before we become Canada! Communism has never worked, our forefathers laid out a plan that has worked for over 200years and it will continue to work another, {{FEAR TACTICS ABOUND}} Obama would trample on it and take us into a deep depression! All we need is John McCain a proud American, a Maverick who will clean up Washington, cut wasted spending, create new jobs, increase domestic energy and put the bums in jail! {{OMG, THIS IS TOTALLY AN AD FOR MCSAME}}

ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINES

SPEED VERSES ACCURACY

I am concerned about electronic voting machines. Considering how easy it is to give a computer a virus, I can only imagine the havoc to be done with computerized voting. Just think of the software glitches. They alone should have everyone cringing.

I have two questions:

  1. Is there a paper trail, an actual piece of paper that gives physical record of the vote that has taken place?
  2. Are recounts possible?

Well, okay, I have more than two questions, but those are the two most pressing questions. So, I've been doing some reading up on these devices. It seems the passwords used on the Diebold machines may still be set to the original factory presets. Now, why on earth would those in charge of electronic voting not see fit to change the passwords?? Good lord!

During this current election, in Jackson County, West Virginia, the selected candidates name jumped to the opposing party's name due to calibration error. As believed by experts, a malicious person could skew the outcome of an election (and we ALL know malicious people are out there).

Why do we, as American citizens, settle for this brand of election fraud? Why do we accept this system when there are so many blatantly erroneous outcomes? Personally, I think electronic voting machines should be banned in major elections. I would think our country could slow down for just one day and take the necessary time for a proper election. One that couldn't be flipped by something as preventable as a virus.

After more reading I've found this article which actually addresses my questions rather well. It was as I feared, there is no paper trail and no recounts possible with many of these machines...

"Optical scanning equipment is becoming the preferred replacement because, unlike touch-screens, it preserves each voter's original paper ballot in the event of a recount."

That in itself should strike fear in the heart of all Americans. If the major advantage of using an electronic voting machine that does not issue a paper receipt is LESS PAPER JAMS then STOP USING THEM ALTOGETHER!!

BRAIN TO NOWHERE

Seriously, she doesn't know where she is!

Once again, Palin has proved how lost she is:

Don't you think it's advisable for the Republican's Presidential running mate to THINK before she speaks?? Good Lord!

BALANCING THE SCALES

Conservatives talk as if sharing the wealth is equal to leprosy

In their eyes it is. In the conservative's eyes, sharing the wealth is a concept that is malignant, and destructive. So just how the hell did America's churches team up with the Republican's? Simply because of the "Pro-life" card? By the way, let's call it what it is: Pro-birth... because they are all for the birth of the child, but once the child is born, heh... yer on yer own, baby! As Richard Belzer once put it in regard to Reaganomics: "Unwed mothers -- suck dick next time".

And to those whom have lost their homes, the conservatives would like you to know that it's your OWN fault for wanting more than you could pay for, even if it WAS the greedy lenders that told you that you could always refinance way before your rates sky-rocket, and your payments become astronomical in comparison to your income.

There are far too many joe-six-packs and hockey moms trying to rub elbows with the good-ol-boy republicans anyway. Get into the streets where you belong! And stay outta the first-class section of the airways too!

All you wealth-sharer's are nothing more than socialists...like, like...England! And you know how they are...!

Yeah, I know how they are, "they" the country, is over one thousand years old compared to the United States two hundred and some. One would deduce they have learned a thing or two over the past several hundred years.

So, if the citizen's of our fine nation don't like how the distribution of wealth plays out in this country they can always move to England or Russia!

"You'll love it there, where you have all you don't need and nothing you do", so says one poster I encountered in ABC's news boards.

What I don't understand is why so many middle-income Americans vote republican. Please tell me it's not just because of the pro-birth policy! They'll be whistling a different tune when it's their jobs on the cutting board, when they loose their health care benefits, and they can't afford or cannot get health insurance on their own. It's a tune I've been whistling for years now.

SLAVE OR SOLDIER? MAKE YOUR CHOICE... NOW!

Is this the end of America as we know it?

So then, greed has won the day once again. This is an exciting time for those at the top. Those that have basically all the world's wealth. They are the ones who will be able to, for lack of a better word, "dictate" to the masses. They will be the ones who give the rest of us the option of becoming a slave or a soldier.

My take is simple. I figure those that started the wheel of this financial crisis rolling knew full well what the possible outcomes were, in fact they couldn't have planned it any better! Whomever, "they" are, they have brought America down to the very brink of collapse. It's as if 911 was merely the precursor to this: the final calamity and total devastation of the US as we once knew her in all her shining splendor, and abundant opportunity for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

So, what then is left for Her citizens who are homeless, jobless and hopeless? A choice! There it is, not far off! A beacon illuminating the way... A simple two-choice strategy:

Slave or Soldier

Will you work for room and board, cleaning up, repairing and maintaining the private sector's holdings? Or will you defend America against all enemies, real and perceived, in exchange for shelter and meals? Once these clever, web-spinners have all their ducks in a row you can be sure there will be NO more jobs, no more economy, no more America! No more freedom!

The terrorists are within, camouflaged in suits, sitting at office desks, hunched behind computer screens, deciding your fate with a call to their stock broker, their banker, their lobbyists.

A REPUBLICAN ANALOGY

His post:

Father / Daughter Talk

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth. She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn’t even have time for a boyfriend, and didn’t really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying. Her father listened and then asked, ‘How is your friend Audrey doing?’ She replied, ‘Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She’s always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn’t even show up for classes because she’s too hung over.’Her wise father asked his daughter, ‘Why don’t you go to the Dean’s office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.’The daughter, visibly shocked by her father’s suggestion, angrily fired back, ‘That’s a crazy idea, and how would that be fair! I’ve worked really hard for my grades! I’ve invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!’The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, ‘Welcome to the Republican party.’ By T.J.

My reply:

T. J. ---- while your analogy is spot-on, I'm having a problem with the Republican's (or any overly wealthy person or establishment's) general penchant for greed. It's not enough that they hoard wealth beyond what a person needs to live ~comfortably~, they need to make a KILLING (especially relating to the stock market or corporate mergers or buy-outs/take-overs). Sure, not only Republican's operate in a manner such as this, but only Republican's are whining about sharing the wealth and paying taxes. The US's current financial crisis is like a serious game of Parker Brother's Monopoly. Only, in the board game, when one person has all the wealth the game is called, the money redistributed and a new game is started. How does the country get back the money from the few people have it all? How do we restart this game? Now, does the US government have to borrow the money from Warren Buffett? Or worse yet, Saudi Arabia, China? Good Lord!

He responded with:

------------- I don't think it fair to assign that to only republicans -------- all people want MORE than what they need to be on the safe side ----------- as in today's investment market place ---------- what one had and thought was enough in reality was not enough ---------- My point is -------- there are just as many overly rich democrats as republicans ------------ I think -------------- one more thing ---------- GREED has no party affiliation in my view -------- GREED has to be stopped

It's sad, really, I never got his opinion on my Monopoly analogy. Typical Republican. Avoid avoid avoid, redirect, avoid.

ON CHOSING A VICE PRESIDENTIAL RUNNING MATE

LINDA LINGLE VS SARAH PALIN

In considering the relatively short list of women that hold office in the Republican party, it's really no wonder how they came up with Sarah Palin. If they went by photographs alone, then, hands-down, Palin wins her party's endorsement. If they went by public appeal, then, as far as I can find on the Internet, she has no anti-Palin websites as does Linda Lingle, at least not prior to her nomination.

In fact, it's painfully obvious that the articles which popped up after Palin's nomination may be too late to be as effective as hoped. Palin's home state of Alaska has the most square mileage of any state. Plenty of land for people and animals to cohabit. So, why are we now hearing of the aerial hunting of animals in Alaska? I'm fairly certain this has been going on for years and years and... well, basically since the invention of flying machines and the idea of hunting merged together. I'm concerned why this hasn't been more of a mainstream issue prior to Palin. But anyway...

If McCain were given a portfolio of Republican women that held office, had that portfolio slammed down in front of him, was told to pick one from this fine crop of "gals". How and whom would he choose? Considering the short list, and speed of the decision, I thought it was rather apparent how he chose.

Lisa Murkowski (R - AK)

Susan M. Collins (R - ME)

Elizabeth Dole (R - NC)

Kay Bailey Hutchison (R - TX)

Olympia J. Snowe (R - ME)

Governor Sarah Palin, Alaska

Governor M. Jodi Rell, Connecticut

Governor Linda Lingle, Hawai

VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES ON ABC.COM

Good Lord, VP Palin? We're in deep trouble!

In Response To: Sarah Palin, Joe Biden Meet for Highly Anticipated Vice Presidential Debate

Woe to you if vote for Republicans because they 'share your religious beliefs'. Republicans use the religion card to FOOL us...Where would Jesus hoard his wealth? Which of the poor would Jesus ignore? Who would Jesus bomb?
Posted by:

Palin is "The BRAIN to nowhere", she is a puppet and the republicans are the puppet-masters. God forbid SHE becomes our next president by default (unfortunate death of McCain). Considering the speed in which McCain chose her as running -mate it is apparent he was shown a portfolio of photographs of all the republican females he could choose from, and he picked the pretty one! Doesn't matter if she's unaware of national issues. She's pretty, and she loves Jesus! Good Lord!!

OPTIMISM AND HUMAN NATURE

Do you consider yourself an optimist? Are you someone who believes people are "basically good"? I, myself, do not subscribe to the belief that all people are basically good. Why? Well, I've worked with young children for the past 20 years and if there is one thing I've come away with it's that humans are basically NOT good. Goodness needs to be taught, and carefully modeled. It is my observation that humans are basically greedy, mean, and sneaky. Which is why we need laws (religion being one of the series of laws that govern humans) to control our behavior.

I was watching an episode of Bill Maher's, Real Time this past week, and was interested in Andrew Sullivan's statements about how U.S. citizens should "self-govern". I really do believe people who are for less government, and self-government haven't spent enough time around groups of young children and rich, spoiled adults.

THE GOOD LORD AWARD GOES TO SARAH PALIN

This award is given to any person performing an astounding blunder.

The first award goes to Sarah Palin, the Republican choice for our next Vice President. During her visit in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she cheerfully greeted Grand Rapids... um, huh?... Minnesota? Michigan? She certainly reminds me of George Dubbya. Which brings me to a movie clip from the film: "My Fellow Americans" where John Heard's character as the Vice President slaughtered his words much like Dubbya does. Good Lord! And Americans vote for these people? We get what we deserve!
